Learning new sewing skills
I've been sewing for more years than I care to admit and I love when I learn a new skill. This week I learned how to do Hong Kong seam finishes. |
Maker's Atelier Swing Jacket Brocade fabric makes the inside of this unlined jacket look as fabulous as the outside. However, the loose weave of the fabric meant the seams were going to be sloppy so I made bias binding from a Raspberry Cupro fabric and Hong Kong finished the seams. It was a fun skill to learn and not that difficult. I used this tutorial from Closet Core Patterns. |
New and fun fabrics This week we got a shipment of Stof Knits. They range from playful to sophisticated and have a great feel. Do you ever get tired of touching fun fabrics? These fabrics are great for T-shirts, dresses, and leggings. Don't forget the Chai Tee is our featured pattern and it is on sale. It's a good time to try a new pattern with a fabulous fabric. Other playful fabrics is this collection from Alexander Henry. They cats and other animals make me smile. Did you know that all Alexander Henry prints are painted by hand? No computer generated images for these artists.

Fall classes for kids and teens. As we move into August and start thinking about fall activiites, consider sewing classes for kids and teens. Register kids 9 and older for our five week after school classes in September, October, and November, or a three week class in December. We are excited to offer Teen Time sewing, a great time for teens to be creative and make new things or transform thrift store finds. Teen time is offered one Sunday afternoon a month. Sign up for one or all four this fall. |
I have met so many wonderful people since I opened the store in May. Thank you for your support and encouragement. Laura and staff P.S. Feel free to park on the street in front of Sew Inviting or in the parking lot behind the store or on the north side of the building. There is a doorbell on the back door if it is not open. |
