Sew Inviting opened two years ago! It has been a joyful experience learning about stocking a retail store and offering sewing classes for kids and adults. I am grateful to all who have offered encouragement, stopped in to visit and buy fabric, taken a class, and provided suggestions for improving the store. I love that Sew Inviting has built a community of people who love fabric and being with other creative people, and I love that the community is growing. Thank you. ~Laura

Sew for Good: Laundry Bags
There are three spots left to sew laundry bags for the People's Laundry MPLS on May 20. Thanks to all who have already registered to make laundry bags for those without permanent shelter.
FEATURED FABRICS
What a great buying trip I had last week. I was unexpectedly able to bring fabric home with me and it is on the shelf, waiting for new homes. The bold floral prints are lightweight and perfect for summer garments. I plan to make the Closet Core Elodie Wrap Dress out of the pink floral.

I also brought home two mud resist dye cotton prints. To create these fabrics, a clay-based block is hand-applied to the fabric to prevent the dye from reaching the fabric.

Kantha is a traditional embroidery technique from India and Bangladesh. Stitchers use a simple running stitch to combine multiple layers of cotton saris or fabric scraps to create durable, sustainable, and lightweight quilted textiles. These double-sided fabrics are amazing examples of upcycling and sustainability and perfect for a reversible jacket or skirt.

FABULOUS FABRIC FUN SUMMER CAMPS
There is still room in some of our summer camps! Register now for creativity!
Morning summer camps are for new or returning campers 9 and older. There are still five weeks of five day camps with openings.
Afternoon garment camps are for experienced sewers 11 and older. Options include drafting and making a skirt, making an upcycled dress, or making overalls. Please read the requirements carefully.
The afternoon embroidery camps that welcome our youngest sewers ages 5 to 8 are filled, but we may add another week.
NEW THIS YEAR: Monday Evening Teen Camp for kids 12 and older. Register your camper for one or multiple nights to learn to sew or work on more advanced projects.
If the class you want is full, please put your name on the waitlist. We look forward to seeing your camper this summer.
FOR INSPIRATION
The four-day Palmer Pletsch pants fitting class I went to in Louisville in February taught me that fitting pants is a process and it is easier with a friend! There is even a bit of trial and error and constant reminders that tissue fitting is a great way to start but sometimes fabric acts differently. I finally finished one of the three patterns I fit during the class. I used Tyler Twill to make shorts from Palmer Pletsch Butterick 6944 with some adjustments. I think these will become a staple in my summer wardrobe and I plan to make some more - once I finish the other pants I started!
